I’d originally planned to get this post up sooner, but have been delaying it for a couple of reasons. The more obvious one being time, between the 12 Days posts and Christmas/New Year I’ve just not had the time to get around to writing this one. The more significant reason though is that I’m honestly struggling to come up with anything to actually say about this episode. As a finale to 11 episodes of dithering around in circles it was honestly pretty functional. But functional isn’t great when I have zero investment in any of the characters. Between the Sky and Sea episode 11: Arbitrarily not telling people things
The episode opens with Maki visiting her father in Tokyo about Maiko’s missing brother. Weirdly enough she questions him as if he were dead, even though Haru would presumably have told everyone that he was actually alive after last episode. She did tell everyone… Right? Oh dear. Between the Sky and Sea episode 10: Apparently there’s a villain now?

This show has some tone issues. Tone issues which were pretty constant this episode in particular, with scenes which were very clearly meant to be taken totally seriously consistently coming across as comedic due to the goofy delivery or inherent silliness of the situation at hand. At least it was unintentionally funny.

Between the Sky and Sea episode 9: Mehstival.

This episode felt like it was meant to be one of the emotional high points of the series. It very much wasn’t. Continue reading “Between the Sky and Sea episode 9: Mehstival.”
Between the Sky and Sea episode 8: Crashing back down.
After the lukewarm excitement of last week’s space escapades things came tumbling back down to earth again this week. With the show having fulfilled its vague space fishing quota for a while we’re back to the individual character focus episodes again. This time it’s… Oh no. Continue reading “Between the Sky and Sea episode 8: Crashing back down.”
Between the Sky and Sea episode 7: Space!
In a wholly unexpected turn of events the gang finally made it into space this week. It was pretty anticlimactic.

Between the Sky and Sea episode 6: Still not in space

Week six and I’m starting to wonder if this lot will ever actually do any space fishing. On the plus side the show finally broke free from the Namino black hole; she only half started a fight this time!

Between the Sky and Sea episode 5: Questionable Life Decisions

Does that post title refer to the contents of the episode or my decision to keep blogging this thing? Why not both?! While not quite as utterly good will destroying as last week this episode’s trajectory didn’t change a whole lot really. On the plus side it saw the return of the show’s distinctive style of extremely inefficient problem solving, so that was fun at least.

Between the Sky and Sea episode 4: Going in circles
I’m going to level with you folks; this show isn’t very good. As much as I’m trying my best to give it a fair shake the anime seems determined to undermine any goodwill it manages to build, this episode in particular managed to throw that small level of positive feeling right out the window. With that said I’m committed to blogging this thing and I’ve finished far worse stuff out of sheer obstinacy before. So let’s talk about the episode.

Between the Sky and Sea episode 3: Accurate Portrayal of Gacha
Rolling and getting something entirely different from what you wanted is very much the quintessential mobage experience. Silly gacha things aside this episode actually covered a surprising amount of ground.
