Well that season sure flew by. It certainly doesn’t feel like I’ve gone another 3 months without writing anything.
This season’s shorts had one unusual thing in common. With a single exception everything was a sequel or a continuation. As such it’s a lot of “if you liked this already it’s still good” for the most part. But enough preamble. In the spirit of the swiftly passing season let’s get right down to it. Continue reading “Summer 2018 Shorts Roundup”
I swear I start every one of these lamenting my seeming inability to write more often, maybe I’ll actually do something about that some day.
Well that certainly was a season of shorts. As is so often the case I feel like last season’s batch can best be described as hit or miss. Some of them were really great, and some fell flat for me at least. With that said let’s just dive right into the roundup. Continue reading “Spring 2018 Shorts Roundup”
This is actually being written in a somewhat timely manner for once? Wonders never cease.
Sadly this season was pretty thin on the ground in the shorts sphere, there weren’t that many to start with, and only four actually got picked up for streaming. But on the plus side they were fairly consistently decent, and in some cases pretty great, so it could be far worse. Continue reading “Winter 2018 Shorts Roundup”
So this time last year I decided to change things up a little and use day 6 to highlight some of the shorts that stood out in 2016. Given I’ve made shorts my thing at this point, it makes sense to turn that into a yearly thing. Since I’m now posting about every short in the roundups I’ve decided to give awards to a few series that I feel stood out for specific reasons. Continue reading “12 Days of Anime 2017, Day 6: Short Awards 2017”
The delays continue and I’ve not had too much time for anime in the last few months, but we’re still doing this thing.
Summer’s shorts were interestingly extreme in their quality, the good stuff was mostly really good, and the bad stuff was really, really bad, with not a whole lot in the middle.

Well, this is more than a month later than planned due to persistent internet issues, but let’s get to it anyway. This season’s shorts were kind of a mixed bag without any major high points and a couple of real lows, but there was some good stuff around regardless. Continue reading “Spring 2017 Shorts Roundup”
Welcome to the first installment of what I hope will become a regular thing, the Shorts Roundup for the Winter 2017 anime season.
I watch a lot of short anime. As I’ve said previously, I try to watch all of them if I can, because they’re a great way of experiencing lots of different kinds of shows with a minimal time investment. A lot of them are kind of bad, but that’s fine, all you lose is a couple of minutes. And sometimes you strike gold.
Given that I watch so many of the things, I thought I’d turn that into an excuse to actually write something for a change. So let’s get to it. Continue reading “Winter 2017 Shorts Roundup”
I’m something of a serial watcher of anime shorts, I try to watch every single one each season. Short anime tend to be overlooked a lot, because the general expectation is that the short runtime acts as a cap on how good they can actually be. Sometimes this is the case, a lot of short anime ends up being pretty bad. But, with the increasing number of the things coming out each season (I’m currently watching 13, which is still missing a few of the ones airing) some of them are bound to be winners, and they are. The format tends to work best for gag commedies, they can get in, tell a joke and get out without overstaying their welcome, but there are plenty of good examples outside this framework. So today I’m going to take a diferent aproach and run some of the better shorts of the year, in no particular order. Continue reading “12 Days of Anime 2016, day 6: Appreciating The Short Stuff”
